What's changing

On Thursday 29 January, a few channels will be moving:

  • Sky Open will go to channel 8 (from 15)
  • Eden will go to channel 18 (from 8)
  • RUSH will go to channel 9 (from 14)
  • BRAVO+1 will go to channel 14 (from 9)

You can still watch those channels after 29 January, and of course still all for free. They'll just be on different channel numbers.

At the same time, Eden+1 and Sky Open+1 will be leaving us, and Three will be upgraded to HD.

Three is already in HD on Freeview's terrestrial and streaming services, and from 29 January it will also be in HD on Freeview's satellite TV service.

What you need to do

Most TVs and Freeview boxes will automatically update on 29 January.

If yours don't update correctly and you can't find any channels after the move, give your TV or box a retune - find retune guides here

And remember to look for these channels at their new channel positions:

  • Sky Open on channel 8
  • Eden on channel 18
  • RUSH on channel 9
  • BRAVO+1 on channel 14

How to easily find those channels after they move

You could check back here to see where your favourite channels have gone, but there's a much easier way...

Check the Freeview TV Guide!

The Freeview TV Guide will show you all the channels in the right order from January 29th, and you can simply browse the Guide to find the channel you'd like to watch.

Another easy way is to just channel-surf until you land on the channel you want - you might even discover some new shows along the way.

Your questions answered

What is happening?

A few of your favourite channels will move to new channel numbers on Freeview in the early hours of 29 January:

  • Sky Open will move to channel 8 (from 15)
  • RUSH will move to channel 9 (from 14)
  • Bravo+1 will move to channel 14 (from 9)

The following changes will be made at the same time:

  • Eden+1 and Sky Open+1 will be leaving Freeview.

All other channels will stay where they are.

What do I need to do?

Most TVs and Freeview boxes will auto-update on Thursday, 29 January.

So, chances are, you just need to remember to look for Sky Open, Eden, Rush and Bravo+1 at their new channel numbers from 29 January!

If for some reason channels go missing afterwards, or if your TV doesn’t update properly, please retune your TV or box. Refer to retune guides here.

How can I check the new channel numbering?

The Freeview TV Guide will clearly show the new channel numbers from Thursday, 29 January:

  • On your TV: Open the Freeview TV Guide
  • Online: See here for the Freeview TV Guide
  • Smartphone: Download the Freeview TV Guide app

Will my Series Links still work?

If you have Series Links set to record entire TV series on Three, Sky Open, RUSH, Bravo+1, or Eden, please re-book these after Thursday, 29 January.

Series Links on other channels should continue to work without re-booking.

Why are these changes being made?

Channel line-ups on Freeview can change from time to time. This update makes several popular channels more readily accessible to viewers. It also improves the video quality on Three for those who tune into Freeview via satellite.

Same great TV,
free for all Kiwis.

After 29 January, you can still enjoy the same great range of programming across the best free TV channels Aotearoa has to offer, it's just that some of them will be on a different channel number.

That's all folks!
