Can I use both a UHF aerial and a Satellite dish?

Well, it all depends on whether you have UHF coverage in your area. The good news is, most homes in New Zealand have satellite coverage, and about 86% of homes can receive UHF as well.

To find out if you have UHF coverage, you can check it here. If you do have coverage, you'll just need both a satellite dish and a UHF aerial installed on your roof.

The satellite dish: will need to be connected to a device that's compatible with satellite and has Freeview, like a dual tuner TV, a satellite box, or a satellite recorder.

The UHF aerial: will need to be connected to a device that's compatible with UHF and has Freeview, like any TV with Freeview, a UHF receiver, or a UHF recorder.

By the way, if you have a dual tuner TV, you're in luck! This type of TV has both a satellite and UHF tuner built-in, so you can connect either the UHF aerial or the satellite dish to it and get Freeview. You can purchase compatible devices from various nationwide retailers.

Need some help setting everything up? Contacting a local installer might be your best bet. They can give you personalized advice and provide a quote. You can find local technicians using the installer directory.

Or, if you're feeling adventurous and want to DIY, check out the Freeview forum. You'll find a community of tech-savvy Kiwis who can offer helpful tips and advice. So go ahead, start a discussion and ask them a question!
