HD NOW ON SATELLITE

We're rolling out HD on Freeview satellite TV!

This means significantly better picture quality for Kiwis who tune in through a satellite dish, and it's possible because we're now beaming in from a new satellite.

Those who tune in through a UHF aerial or use the Freeview Streaming TV app already watch TV in HD, so this brings the experience of satellite viewers in line with everyone else.

Kicking things off on 4 June 2025 with a few TVNZ channels upgrading their satellite TV broadcasts to HD. And we're just getting started!

Do I need to do anything to get HD on satellite?

No, you don't need to do a thing. If you're already tuning into Freeview with a satellite dish, you'll get the HD upgrades automatically. All there's to do is to kick back, relax and enjoy better picture clarity, still entirely subscription-free.

What about other channels?

Warner Bros. Discovery, the broadcaster for Three, eden, Rush and Bravo, are looking to move some channels to HD as well. More details will be shared at a later date.
