What is HDMI?

HDMI is an acronym for High-Definition Multimedia Interface.

It’s a type of cable connection between digital receivers (set top boxes), DVD players, game machines and TVs. It's fast becoming standard in most new devices and beats similar analogue devices like SCART and component connections because it’s simple to connect and provides better picture and sound quality when used to connect a receiver / recorder to the TV.

It also has the ability to work with new and developing software protection methods required by programme content owners.

If you’re using a UHF aerial connected to a recorder or set top box to get Freeview, it’s best to use an HDMI cable to connect that recorder or set top box to your TV so you can enjoy HD programming and recordings.
